Swaying color, foot-tapping beats, and the rhythmic clatter of sticks. Dandiya traces its roots to Gujarat and is danced in its glory during Navratri.
Origin / tradition
The form
Dancers move in circles and answer the music by clattering sticks. Garba is native to the same region. The difference noted on the existing site: Garba is performed before the arti, while Dandiya follows the arti. The form has now left its mark well beyond India.
